Though a bit of a cliche, I mean it when I say that art feels as essential as breathing to me. When I’m not painting or drawing, I’m looking at the world through a lens in accord with my craft. I’ve been an artist since I could hold a pencil and draw a circle. Light, facial expressions, colors, textures, and imagery are inspirations that make life rich and rewarding - they help ground me. I hope these themes in my art help to ground others too and perhaps even make them contemplate the world around them more thoroughly.
I grew up drawing portraits of my family members at my grandparents house. My grandfather was a woodcarver and painter, and I remember longing to be as skilled as him at capturing the world. Years and years followed, with frustrations over proportions and blending, but I’ve made it to adulthood and I’m still learning about art every day whether in practice or observation. I wouldn’t want it any other way. After getting brain surgery for my Cushings Disease this year, I have had somewhat of an awakening regarding the position of art in my life, and it feels right letting it take center stage, so here I am!
I draw my inspiration from nature, animals (especially animals often overlooked in traditional art), literature, fantasy, surrealism, and emotional experiences. I expresses myself through watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oil, and digital medium.
I live in New England with my wonderful husband and lively hound dog named Carl. I am also a therapist, a practicing singer, vintage collector, avid reader, Cushings disease survivor, and general nature enjoyer.
